Sonny was a resident of Luna County, New Mexico for most of his life. He raised one daughter, Sharla Parra Hernandez, whom he thought the world of. Sonny was employed by Columbus Electric Coop for 40 years and was a very dedicated and knowledgeable employee. He had a passion for roping and teaching the younger generations the art of roping. He competed in many ropings and won his fair share of them. It was in his blood. Sonny was a very kind and patient man when it came helping others. He would give the shirt off his back if he needed to. Sonny, a proud grandpa of 6 wonderful grandchildren; Chilly, Brisaida, Jaycee, Destiny, Michael and Adilene stole his heart from the moment they were born. His excitement about what their accomplishments became would make him even more proud today. Sonny was always about the kids. He enjoyed having them come to the house to rope or ride and teach all newcomers to rope. This is why this scholarship fund is so important to us. Sonny wanted to start one up when he was alive. Now his memory will live on through younger generations by helping them accomplish their goals to do what they enjoy.
